Last month, Oxford City Council announced that they intended to take over the running of East Oxford Community Centre from the charity that has run it since the 1970s, East Oxford Community Association (EOCA). EOCA is elected yearly by the residents of East Oxford to run the centre on the behalf of everybody who lives in East Oxford.

The council have said that they need to take over the running of the centre because they are unhappy with the way that EOCA have been running it. However, we have recently learned that the council intend to “develop the site” by which they mean demolish desperately needed community facilities and build more houses or flats. The council have neglected the property for years and this betrayal of the community is sad and we believe wrong.

We need to let them know that the community of East Oxford is not going to take this attack lying down.
